At the end of the 2016-2017 school year, AUSD offered us a 0.5% raise for this (2017-2018) school year. Rather than insult the membership by bringing an unacceptable offer to it for a vote, Union leadership decided to place this round of negotiations on hold until the Fall. Every three years, the entire contract opens up for negotiations -- 2017-2018 is one of those years; accordingly, the AEA will be seeking to structure a long term monetary settlement that includes the unfinished 2017-2018 negotiations as well as the three years going forward. Since the District will know what their financial obligations towards the membership are, it will effectively prevent them from spending their money elsewhere and claiming there's nothing left over for us.
